Technician plays a vital role in supporting pharmaceutical services
within a healthcare setting. Working under the direct supervision
of a licensed pharmacist, this position performs a variety of
technical and clerical tasks in compliance with California State
Board of Pharmacy Technician License requirements. The ideal
candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, and committed to
maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and patient
confidentiality. The following statements reflect key
responsibilities necessary to describe the principal functions of
the job and do not encompass all duties that may be inherent to the
position. Perform technical pharmaceutically related duties under
the direct supervision of a pharmacist, adhering to all applicable
California State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Assist in daily
pharmacy operations, supporting pharmacists and staff in delivering
timely and accurate pharmaceutical services. Maintain inventory
levels by ordering, receiving, labeling, and storing pharmaceutical
supplies; verify incoming orders against purchase orders, invoices,
and requisitions. Review inventory for expired medications and
remove or segregate them according to policy. Prepare, label, and
organize prescriptions for pharmacist verification, including
typing prescription labels and retrieving drug containers as
needed. Operate packaging machinery to support unit dose or
prepackaged dispensing systems, ensuring proper labeling and
documentation. Maintain accurate patient medication profiles and
update records in accordance with pharmacy protocols. Assist in the
preparation of medication adherence packaging (e.g., blister packs
or pill organizers) for pharmacist review and final approval.
Coordinate the delivery and pickup of medications as needed between
departments or satellite locations. Clean and organize pharmacy
equipment, shelves, and workstations to ensure a sanitary and
efficient work environment. Prepare and maintain logs and records
related to prepackaged drugs, inventory counts, and controlled
substances under pharmacist direction. Support centralized
recordkeeping for inventory, purchasing, and operational
documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
Participate in onboarding and orientation activities for new
pharmacy staff by preparing training materials and assisting with
initial workflow integration. Assist in the coordination of
provider and pharmacy-related documentation, credentialing support,
and internal compliance tracking. Adhere to HIPAA and all
applicable privacy laws and regulations to safeguard patient health
information and confidentiality in all communications. Collaborate
with internal departments, providers, and external vendors to
ensure timely and accurate communication regarding pharmaceutical
needs. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of
pharmacy technician licensure and under the direction of a licensed
pharmacist. Perform other duties as assigned by the executive
leadership and administration. Requirements: High School Diploma or
education equivalent to completion of the 12th grade required. Some
college coursework in pharmacy, healthcare, or a related field is
preferred. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a
Pharmacy Technician issued by the California State Board of
Pharmacy, in accordance with Section 4115 and 4202 of the Business
and Professions Code. Recommended: National Pharmacy Technician
Certification (PTCB or equivalent). Minimum of 2 years of
experience working as a Pharmacy Technician in a clinical,
outpatient, or community pharmacy setting. Demonstrated knowledge
of pharmaceutical terminology, drug classifications, weights and
measures, and sterile techniques. Experience maintaining inventory
records, preparing medication adherence packaging, and assisting in
prescription processing. Familiarity with pharmacy software
systems, electronic health records (EHR), and Microsoft Office
applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). Proven ability to follow
precise oral and written instructions, perform mathematical
calculations accurately, and maintain detailed records. Strong
organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to
prioritize in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Excellent
written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact
professionally with staff, providers, and vendors. Commitment to
maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA and
all applicable privacy regulations.
