Surgical Assistant / Refracting Technician
Your mission
LASIK MD - San Diego is currently looking for a Surgical Assistant or Ophthalmic Technician (SA) (OT), under the supervision of an Ophthalmologist. Anyone with technical experience in the field, is welcome and encouraged to apply!
The SA or OT will be expected to perform testing, take accurate measurements, and review optical results to allow our licensed eye care professionals to counsel patients on the best refractive surgery options for them. Credibility and customer orientation are essential in this position.
This new team member will be called upon to work on ad-hoc projects or to assist in tasks and projects related to its affiliated brands. Our employees are expected to be versatile and open to the possibility of learning new skills. Most clinical cross-training or affiliated brand tasks would be considered adjacent to the employee's current tasks and level of responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES

• 
  
• Complete preoperative and postoperative measurements, offering clear explanations to patients throughout the process.
  
• Review optical results to insure of their accuracy.
  
• Provide the licensed eye care professional all the necessary measurements and patient information for the patient to receive the proper counseling and recommendations with respect to procedures and technology available at the local practice.
  
• Provide superior customer service and patient care.
  
• Use appointment and patient file software, patient charts and other available tools to make accurate and clear notes regarding patient eye health.
  
• Perform clinical study recruitment and additional testing as required by Medical Affairs and Research & Development.
  
• Any other tasks as per required by the Center Director or management team.
  
  REQUIRED SKILLS
  
  • 
    
  • Superior communication skills, particularly verbal, with excellent "bedside manner", professionalism, and active listening
    
  • Experience with several diagnostic tools and tests, including topography, refraction, slit lamp examination, lensometry, autorefraction, visual acuity, pupillometry, fundus photography, corneal tachymetry, tonometry, corneal topography, corneal tomography, OCT testing of the cornea and retina, biometry, and corneal higher order aberration testing

    QUALIFICATIONS
    
    • 
      
    • Graduate from the Opticianry Program (license not required), BSc, COT or COMT as certified by JCAHPO, or
      
    • JCAHPO-certified COAs or technical experience in the field,
      
    • Experience in an optical environment
