Job Description:
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE The Sheetmetal mechanic is responsible for
fabricating, assembling and installing a wide variety of Components
on Navy ship repair and other marine and commercial equipment.
These Sheetmetal Components include, but are not limited to,
Ventilation Systems, Metal Joiner Bulkheads and Framing, Furniture,
Cabinetry, Lockers, Ladders and Handrails, Foundations, and Wet
Spaces. As a Sheetmetal Worker, you will perform work governed by
detailed technical work documents and procedural guidelines.
Sheetmetal mechanics must possess trade specific tools. ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS / DUTIES Operates sheet metal fabrication and hand
machinery and equipment Operates shear equipment and press brakes
Perform precise fitting work on components Running lines and leads
Advanced Blueprint Reading Must adhere to promote ALL company
safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and
promote a clean and safe work environment. Assists Leadman/Foreman
with check points Accomplishes tasks in a quick and timely manner
Ensure that employees assigned with firewatch duties are in place
and ready prior to beginning hot work Fill out Job JSA forms Must
adhere to promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required
PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work
environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS - The Sheetmetal mechanic must be
able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of
this job. The following physical demands are representative of the
position. The position is active and requires extensive standing,
walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing,
and crouching. Along with such movements, employee is required to
lift parts/machinery of up to 75 pounds. Additional demands are
listed below: Able to climb ladders and work off scaffolding Able
to lift, carry, and or push up to 50 75 lbs. throughout the shift
(including overtime) * Reasonable accommodation may be made to

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS Advanced Blueprint proficiency Able to work
independently with little to no supervision Must be able to
evaluate the use of various resources and make knowledgeable
decisions regarding safety and company procedures and policies Able
to read a tape measure Able to operate Sawzall, 4 7 grinders, and
various other tools Able to use drills, rivet guns, nibblers,
plasma arc cutters, rollers, shears, and press brakes Advanced Work
Specification Proficiency Advanced Shipboard installation and shop
fabrication layout proficiency
