General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer II to join the Electrical Engineering Test group within the ASI Division located in Poway, CA. The candidate will be responsible for projects that implement software and hardware design for automated test systems. The candidate will be responsible for all phases of assigned engineering projects from inception through completion and production sustainment. Works within a team environment of technical staff consisting of engineers and technicians.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for design and/or specification of software, circuit boards, test interface modules, cables, and equipment, to facilitate testing of electrical and electronic equipment designed for remote piloted aircraft (RPA).
  • Responsible for generating component level, module level, and system level test fixtures, test programs, test cables, test procedures, and test record forms.
  • May be responsible for system level troubleshooting guides and fault isolation diagrams for RPA systems
  • Responsible to review new designs for testability. Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

    Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • Proficiency with LabVIEW 2014 (or greater) with cRIO and Automated Test Equipment (ATE).
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design.
  • Ability to read and understand detailed instructions and schematics.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in test engineering area and lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • Experience working with Microchip PICs or similar microcontrollers/microprocessors.
  • Experience troubleshooting test systems.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
